Things To Do When Involved In An Accident
Never leave the scene of an accident. Regardless of whether a wreck looks serious, you should always stop, check on the other person involved, exchange insurance information and report it to law enforcement. If you don’t get a police report documenting the accident, what proof do you have that it even happened? Also, the police report can speed up your claim process.
Do not admit guilt. If you say that you are at fault, you’re legally admitting liability for the accident, which could expose you to a lawsuit or other penalties. Avoid saying anything that could imply that you were at fault (or partially at fault). This could end up on a police report and hurt your ability to collect compensation from the other driver’s insurance.
Always document the accident. Write down the other driver’s name, address, insurance company’s name and policy number. Make note of the make, model, color and license plate of the vehicle they were driving. Don’t forget to take pictures of the crash site. Lastly, check for any witnesses and obtain their names and phone numbers. Take pictures of the damages.
Always seek medical attention. One of the most damaging mistakes people can make after being involved in a motor vehicle collision is not seeking medical attention. Even if you feel fine, you may have sustained injuries. Medical attention is important for your health, and can also serve as valuable evidence in your case.
Always seek legal representation. We will come to you. Retain an attorney that is ready to fight for you, we will fight for you. Call us anytime. We don’t get paid until we get a check!
